2012 Open Water Swims (OWS)

We’re starting group OWS. We hope to have volunteers out there every Friday evening to help and to spot. So far I can be there every OTHER  Friday unless announced otherwise. It’s best to have a group for safety. So please join in, and we can take turns spotting. We swim at Sheppard Point on Lake Heyburn 6 pm. May 18. Same place as last year’s triTULSA Festival. If anyone has a kayak and can man it, the better.

Approach the lake from NORTH, off Hwy 33. Bring brightly colored swim cap. email me president@tatok.com if questions or need directions (Google Map Sheppard Point Lake Heyburn). Park near the swim beach that is on the east side of the peninsula.  (AGAIN, the park is on the NORTH part of the lake. NOT the part accessed from Kellyville!)

It costs a $3.00  per swimmer. There are shower facilities there. You can run and bike from there. I’ll ask Ted at Superleggera about a wetsuit clinic there, or at his store, in the near future. Someone want to volunteer to help with that?

As it warms up better and we get a little more daylight we’ll set up a family get together there for some après-swim fun. Again, will need volunteers to help. THANKS!

I come to Tulsa on business a few times a year and i will be staying in Downtown Tulsa 5/21 and 5/22. Is there a group swim or run on Tuesday in the evening? I can also swim or run early if there is a group thing. Please shoot me an email and I hope to see you.

Is there an OWS at Lake Heyburn this Friday? June 1st 2012? If yes, what time?

We need a volunteer to be out there, June 1, Steve. I have to work until 6 pm. Post on yahoo email list or Facebook and you may get some takers. Seems like 6 pm is a good time, but it’s up to you and whomever else you round up. When I am back from Freewheel and settle into a work routine again, I hope to be out there every other Friday evening.

Is there a way to get a schedule of when you guys will be at Heyburn on Fridays (for example, a FB page with info?) I’ve swam Keystone dam a couple of times to get some open water training, but am very concerned about my safety, even with someone watching me. I was excited when a friend told me about you guys b/c would much rather train with a group but didn’t realize one existed. Thanks for the info.

Hi Julie,
TAT has been swimming at Heyburn Lake on Friday evenings at 6 pm. It has been part of the TAT Tri Camp training program but you can swim during that time too, as long as you are not “lurking” during the campers’ (paid) part of the program. (Sheppard Point is accessed from NORTH side of lake off Hwy 33). Other swim times can be arranged by you by simply by posting when you want to meet up on our Facebook page or on our club yahoo list-serve. See who can swim when and there ya go! All swims are “swim at your own risk”. Wear a bright swim cap, NEVER swim alone, and pay at the gate EACH time you swim.
