Tulsa Running Buddies!
TULSA RUNNING BUDDIES – You are invited to participate and make a difference!
These past few months have been an exciting time getting a new program off the ground. We are excited to announce that TULSA RUNNING BUDDIES will debut this October in conjunction with San Miguel Middle School (http://www.sanmigueltulsa.org/). Tulsa Running Buddies aims to pair positive adult role models with youth to get them moving. Although the name infers we are only here to “run”, we actually mean run, jog, walk, trot, or even skip. We are simply pairing adult role models with kids as a way to create an open dialog, offer a positive adult role model and get kids moving to a healthier lifestyle. Yes – it is that simple! We want to invite you to be a part of this pilot program during Fall 2011.
Tulsa Running Buddies is currently looking for “buddies” to be a part of two-month pilot program during Fall 2011. The program will consist of meeting with students one-hour a week on Tuesdays at San Miguel Middle School (near Lewis and 244). The objective is to create a program where mentors and students run, jog, walk, trot or skip while aiming to participate in the Jingle Bell 5K fun run/walk on Saturday, December 10, 2011. Running and walking is not the focus of this program — it is simply the means of opening communication with youth that are in need of positive, adult role models in their lives. You do not need to be a sub 5-minute miler to participate. We are truly looking for anyone interested in making a positive impact on the lives of children while getting them moving to a healthier lifestyle.
Thus far, we have had overwhelming response from the students at San Miguel Middle School. As a unique model school, San Miguel focuses on small class sizes, one-on-one attention and family involvement. With enrollment hovering around 60 students, we are beyond thrilled that more than 30+ students have signed up to be a part of Tulsa Running Buddies. This means that YOU are more important than ever to making the difference in the lives of these students. Ultimately, we are looking to pair one buddy per student.
If you are interested in being a part of Tulsa Running Buddies, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. A Buddy Kick-off Event will be Tuesday, October 4th at San Miguel as a way to meet the parents and students. The commitment involves one hour (4:15 – 5:00 pm) every Tuesday from early Oct to early Dec 2011. Please pass this along to friends, family, coworkers or anyone that may be interested in being a part of this exciting program.
If you are not able to commit to the being a Buddy at this time or you do not live in the Greater Tulsa area, we are also looking for people that are able to donate their time, skills and/or energy behind-the-scenes to help grow and foster the program. This could include marketing, donations, accounting, web design, etc. Email email@example.com to let us know what fabulous way you can make this program a huge success!
We look forward to running, walking, jogging and trotting with you in October! The students are anxiously awaiting your arrival…
